We are a co-educational school with 200 pupils in single stream classes.

Listellick Primary school is located on the Abbeydorney Road on the outskirts of Tralee town overlooking the beautiful Tralee Bay.

Active School

Cycle Safety Training Course

Our school is staging a course in cycling safety training run by “Wheelie Good Academy”.  The course is aligned to CYCLE RIGHT, the National Standard for Cycle Safety Training in Ireland, and is delivered by qualified trainers from the national register.

Visit www.cycleright.ie to find a range of resources and films to support the participant in cycling when CYCLE RIGHT training is completed.

Swimming

Swimming is an important part of the primary school curriculum and the learning objectives can be found within the Aquatics strand of the Physical Education (P.E.) curriculum.

3rd, 4th & 5th class take part in lessons each year in Tralee Sports Complex.

The strand units of the Aquatics curriculum include:

  • Hygiene

  • Water safety

  • Entry to and exit from the water

  • Buoyancy and propulsion

  • Stroke development

  • Water-based ball games

  • Understanding and appreciation of aquatics

The aquatics curriculum recognises that there is more to swimming than learning to swim strokes and competing in swimming competitions. The emphasis is on acquiring a set of fundamental skills, attitudes and understanding before becoming competent in traditional strokes.

Physical Education

All children receive one hour P.E per week and on occasions more than this.
We have had gymnastics and Irish Dancing this year as part of our P.E. programme.
3rd,4th and 5th class have been doing swimming lessons as part of their P.E.

Physical Activity

The children in Listellick school are encouraged to be active at school where and when possible.
The children regularly engage in Active Breaks at school.
We currently have playground leaders doing playground games and the children have access to P.E. equipment at lunchtime each week.

Partnerships

We are delighted to say we partnered with School Fitness Ireland to hold a 6 week block of gymnastics lessons and we also had Johnathan from Síamsa who did Irish Dancing with Juniors to 2nd. We also have Cycle Right who are teaching the children in 6th class how to cycle safely.
1st and 2nd classes receive hurling/camogie training from the Kerry GAA County Board and the football GDA also comes in to school doing football with different classes each term.

Football/Hurling/Camogie

Pupils are coached in the above skills though involvement with Kerry GAA County Board and local GAA clubs.

The primary PE curriculum is made up of the following six strands and strand units Click on the image below for further information:
